LAX to the MAX: Meteor Lacrosse Focusing on The Process

The arrival of spring marks the inaugural year for lacrosse here at De La Salle.  Designated to lead the lacrosse team is Institute Campus social science teacher, Mr. McGinnis. Coach McGinnis has great experience playing the sport of lacrosse. He took part in 3 state championships while playing for New Trier High School and eventually took his talents to Augustana College where he served as a team captain his senior year.

Taking the reins of an established program is one thing but building a program from the ground up is a completely different task. Most students here at De La Salle do not have much experience playing lacrosse but that hasn’t stopped Coach McGinnis from having high expectations from the outset.

“As a first year program we are really focused on developing each player as much as possible,” said Coach McGinnis. “We are currently trying to get as many scrimmages as possible on the schedule, but our main focus is to make everyone a better lacrosse player each and every day.”

Developing those talents will be a challenge, but one that he is eager to take on. Many students have already taken an interest to the sport. Practices have begun and students are performing their best to develop the unique talents required to play.

“The unique part about lacrosse is that it combines the skills of several different sports into one,” said Coach McGinnis. “I often explain to people that lacrosse has the same positions as soccer, but the skill set of hockey players.”

All in all, no matter the amount of experience these players have, we wish them the best of luck going forward! The first game is scheduled for April 4th versus Mount Carmel.
